SHILOH, Tenn. -- Federal stimulus money is coming to Shiloh National Military Park in the form of a more than $100,000 appropriation to improve cannon displays by replacing deteriorated cannon carriages.
The National Park Service will receive $750 million in funds from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, commonly known as the stimulus bill, for projects throughout the national park system, including military parks such as Shiloh NMP in Hardin County, Tenn.
Projects in Tennessee will receive more than $10.2 million in stimulus funds through the program.
Shiloh NMP is scheduled to receive $108,000 for the cannon project. Ranger Ashley Berry said the funds will be used for improvements and replacements of cannon carriages throughout the park.
Berry explained the existing carriages are cast iron and were built in the early 1900s.
She emphasized they are not artifacts original to the battle.
The park service has said projects using recovery funds will meet the recovery act's criteria requiring the funds be used to address the most important needs, generate the largest number of jobs in the shortest period of time and create lasting value for the country.
