Gettysburg, Pa. (June 24, 2009)--The Gettysburg Foundation will present its popular “Sacred Trust” lecture series July 3-5 at the Museum and Visitor Center at Gettysburg National Military Park.
The event will begin Friday, July 3, at 12 noon with a question-and-answer session with renowned documentary filmmaker Ken Burns, who produced and directed the acclaimed PBS series The Civil War. Burns’s latest effort, The National Parks: America’s Best Idea, will air this fall on PBS. Burns will appear Friday, July 3, at 12 noon. to kick off the “Sacred Trust” event.
The lecture series is free and open to the public, and most authors and historians will be signing books after their presentations. Books are available in the Museum Bookstore, and pre-ordered signed copies can be ordered at www.gettysburgfoundation.org.
The Gettysburg Foundation presents the “Sacred Trust” lecture series each year to commemorate the anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg, and it complements other activities at the Museum and Visitor Center, including the National Park Service’s special anniversary programs, held July 1-3. The performance is free, but tickets are required.
Information about these and other upcoming programs can be found at www.gettysburgfoundation.org.
All of these special events complement the Cyclorama, Film and Museum Experience at the Museum and Visitor Center, featuring the massive Cyclorama—the nation’s largest painting. The experience also includes the Morgan Freeman-narrated film, A New Birth of Freedom, and the Gettysburg Museum of the American Civil War.
Visitors who purchase tickets to the experience online in advance will save 15-20% off of individual ticket prices. To order, visit www.gettysburgfoundation.org.
