"The last remaining original structure of Pleasant Retreat; Dr. Joel Walker Flood's 2,500 acre tobacco plantation is available to be moved to a location of your choice. Price is for the purchase of the building, numbered and disassembled.

This circa 1785 building is a freestanding structure over a full basement, it was connected to a two and a half story brick mansion in 1810. Dr Flood was the wealthiest man in the county and counted Thomas Jefferson as a friend and overnight guest at his home.

On the hearths' of this house Joel Sweeny picked the melodies that would make him and the banjo famous world over.

Pleasant Retreat was used as Gen. Longstreet's headquarters April 19,1865. His men dug the last breastworks of the confederacy in the yard, as well on April 19,1865 they stuck their rifles and battle flag in the yard and marched away."

It is the historical setting that makes this house important, how dare they.
    Thomas J. Alleman
"If the choice be mine, I chose to march." LOR
