    Re: Return Our Flags

North Carolina recently returned a flag to Rhode Island. It had been in our possession since 1863.

I did not see Mr. Biggs arguing that he should personally own them or that the South will rise again. So let us all remember that of utmost concern is IF the flags exist anymore then we want them to be cared for in the best manner possible. The modern politics of the Confederate flag is not an issue for the Civil War Preservation forum.
      Well stated Dabney!!!

As a gesture of good will, the 1905 US Congress (many a congressman were vetrans of the War) saw fit to return all identified CS flags back to their state of origin. Those that were not ID'd went to an organization that became the MOC. Some of those flags that were not ID'd then but are now ID'd do get returned to the originating state. If the US gov't can forgive, I don't see why it is so difficult for the northern states to follow suit.

Oh and if you say states rights well maybe you're from the wrong side of the Mason Dixon line! that issue was hashed out 145 + years ago and they lost. Lincoln was afraid of the legality of Seccesion to be ruled on by the Supreme court for fear that it may have been ruled legal and constituional!

        Mr. Joe Walker
        Dear Sir,
With regard to my post I wrote "Collecting Secesh flags," not collecting flags. I am sure the Israelites and Philistines kept each other's standards as battle trophies. I am not urging anyone to return anything. In retrospect, however , I do somewhat now agree wi th the sentiments expressed in the Ambrose Bierce poem.
        all for the old flag,
