Gettysburg, Pa. (Nov. 4, 2009) —The Gettysburg Foundation and the National Park Service are pleased to invite Adams County residents to the fourth of four planned Community Appreciation Days on Veterans Day, Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2009. On designated Community Appreciation Days, Adams County residents enjoy free tickets to the Cyclorama, Film and Museum Experience at the Museum and Visitor Center at Gettysburg National Military Park.
The Museum and Visitor Center will be open from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m., with the first Cyclorama and A New Birth of Freedom film showing scheduled for 8:15 a.m.; the final show will be at 4:15 p.m. Due to the popularity of previous community events, Adams County residents are encouraged to arrive early; crowds are usually lightest between 8:30 – 10 a.m., and tickets are available on a first-come, first-served basis. (Advance reservations are not available for Community Appreciation Day tickets, and rain checks will not be available.) Local visitors should be prepared to show proof of residence, such as a driver’s license.
Please note that the 4 p.m. and 4:15 p.m. Cyclorama and film shows feature the film A New Birth of Freedom and an opportunity to view the Cyclorama painting without the sound and light presentation. Beginning at 4:25 p.m. (until 5 p.m.), visitors holding Cyclorama, Film and Museum Experience tickets for the day are invited to return to the Cyclorama gallery to spend “quality time” viewing the Cyclorama painting. Ticket holders must present their ticket stubs for admission, and the invitation is on a space-available basis.
Upcoming Community Appreciation Days in 2010 include: Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Jan. 18; Presidents Day, Feb. 15; a back-to-school day held in late August or early September; and Veterans Day, Nov. 11.
Gettysburg National Military Park is a unit of the National Park Service that preserves and protects the resources associated with the Battle of Gettysburg and the Soldiers’ National Cemetery, and provides an understanding of the events that occurred there within the context of American history. The Gettysburg Foundation is a private, non-profit educational organization working in partnership with the National Park Service to enhance preservation and understanding of the heritage and lasting significance of Gettysburg.
