AUSTIN, Texas — A Civil War battle display in Texas that was dismantled in 2007 has been redone by some students from Arizona.
The diorama was set to be unveiled Monday in Austin. The exhibit involves the 1865 Battle of Palmetto Ranch near Brownsville.
The 10-foot-by-5-foot model was created by students at Highland High School as a salute to their retiring history teacher, Glen Frakes of Gilbert, Ariz.,
The original diorama was installed at the Texas Military Forces Museum at Camp Mabry in August 2007, but was dismantled in a dispute over alleged inaccuracies.
The updated diorama will be on display at the Texas Capitol through Nov. 29.
The Austin American-Statesman reports the new diorama will have a permanent home at the Texas Civil War Museum in Fort Worth.
