Compatriots, my name is Robert Conner and I am the 1st Sergeant of Company I, 6th NCST, otherwise known as the Cedar Fork Rifles. Last January we started an initiative to raise funds to conserve the battle flag of the 6th NCST that was captured at Sailer's Creek in 1864, and we need your help. Below is a small description of the flag before it was captured.
After the 6th returned from the “Valley Campaign” in 1864 which included Monocacy, 3rd Winchester, Fisher’s Hill, and Cedar Creek, the 6th Regiment was issued this flag.
This flag was issued by the Richmond Depot and was a sub variant of its bunting battle flag. This type of battle flag was a sixth-issue flag, and was distributed to those regiments which had lost their flag while fighting in the Valley. In the spring of 1865, the Sixth had left the trenches of Petersburg and was heading west with the remnants of the Army of Northern Virginia. On April 6, 1865 the 6th Regiment was battling Union Forces at Sailor’s Creek, Virginia. This flag was captured at that battle. The flag was captured by Pvt. James, or Joseph Kimball, (both names have been listed) of Company B, of the 2nd West Virginia Volunteer Cavalry, 3rd Brigade, 3rd Cavalry Division, General G. A. Custer, Commanding. The flag was returned to the State of North Carolina by the United States Government Ordinance Office on February 25, 1905.
Late last year we asked the NC Museum of History that this flag be sent to the conservationists for estimate when the flag of the 58th NC, courtesy of our sister unit the 26th NC, was sent to be preserved. The official cost of the flag is $6,458.00 of which we now have $1500 raised. If you would like to contribute to this cause, please mail your donations to;

Please make sure to indicate in the memo line of checks, or insert a small note if giving cash, that this is for the 6th NC Flag, they will know who it is for. This flag has not been seen by the public in 105 years so lets bring it out for the world to see.
