Just a personal note about Pickett's Mill. The park has been a very good friend to authentic reenactors over the years and GA is looking at making more budget cuts from what I hear. I am biased here but this is one park that I think really deserves our support as they have supported us very well.

I voted "Other" on the preservation poll. My choice? Confederate Memorial Hall in New Orleans. It's the Museum of the Confederacy-West, only with more charm that its Eastern cousin. It's been hammered by legal woes, repair needs, Katrina fallout and political correctness. And while getting as much bang for the buck is using wisdom, no one is lined up to do a matching-grant scenario for this Big Easy gem.

Suffice it to say that there really are no bad decisions to be made in this regard. However, I would say that giving where each dollar spent gives the greatest return is probably the logical decision. Of course logic doesn't always win the day. My vote went to Davis Bridge, Glendale and Reams Station. With Franklin being a close second.

I agree, No way to lose here and I am proud to be a small part of it through the AC.
Course, if I had my druthers it would be Franklin or "anywhere but Gettysburg" (I have learned to love to hate the place). Thanks Paul. Ken R Knopp

One thing to keep in mind I think is that if you're favorite doesn't get picked this time around, we'll probably do it next year also. Plus, there's no reason why we as individuals can't pitch in with a little effort of our own to help some of these places. If you can send $10 to Pickett's Mill, Memorial Hall etc. please do so. No amount is too small because it all adds up. For example, I pick up pennies on the ground. Most people don't care about them but I pick them up and put them in a jar at home. I've got a lot of pennies in that jar. Small efforts add up to quite a bit in the long run.

Every little bit helps, and Michael hits it on the head. We as individuals need to do what we can on an individual basis, even if it is only a small amount. Most people cannot donate $1000 to help preserve a battleground that is important to us. But if 500 people toss in $20 each, it amounts to the same. And c'mon, I am very sure all of us have dropped a 20 dollar bill on some real stupid crap, multiple times if it was fun, heh, I know I have. Its just caring enough to do it, and mailing the check. Times are tougher right now, and donations from businesses are hard to get, so its even more important for us as individuals to do what we can.

I picked 3. Pickett's, Franklin and Glendale. Seems to me these three would be most easily overlooked by the masses, and therefore could use the help more. Thanks to the A/C leadership for however you choose to donate the funds and for taking the trouble to do so.

I voted for Glendale because it's an easy place to overlook. As was said earlier, however, any one of these choices is a good one.

The poll will close tomorrow evening - we'll make a decision and send the donation shortly thereafter.

                    Paul,
Will it be an all or nothing, or will the top 2 vote getters split the $500? From looking at the Glendale map, the land being preserved would be land covered by the 2nd Florida (which got my vote).

Dunno yet ... I want to talk to Justin and Matt and see what they think. I wouldn't mind splitting it up a little but I don't want to put $50 here, $50 there and a $1.25 somewhere else.

Not to influence you all but If you took the top three vote getters and broke it down as below, you would actually be giving more than $500.00 and really helping all three greatly. Just some food for thought.

                        Franklin ($6.33 to $1 match) $150.00 donation = $949.50
                        Glendale, Davis's Bridge and Ream's Station ($7 to $1 match) $100.00 donation = $700.00
Picketts Mill National Battefield $250.00 donation

I'm going to work out the exact breakdown today ... wanna call Justin and Matt. I plan to move the money this week. Thanks for everyone's participation - I didn't see a bad idea in the bunch.

This has been exciting to raise dollars for CW Preservation - I really think we could do more as a community, and got some ideas for doing just that. We'll keep you posted.
