  • CWT: Donation in the memory of Charles Heath 2010

Greg Deese reminded us all that Charles passed away at the end of May 2009. Love him or not, Charles did a lot of work for events and preservation that folks will never know about.

Because Charles was very passionate about preservation, I (with Greg's help) have decided to collect money from the AC membership for the Civil War Preservation Trust (CWPT). The preservation drive will take place between now (May 19th) through the month of June 2010. After all monies are collected, I will send the checks to CWPT with a cover letter stating that we raised the money in Charles's name and what we would like them to do with it (TBD).

    The particulars:

    1) I will only be accepting checks (NO PAYPAL payments will be accepted). By paying by check, the CWPT will send you a donation receipt to use on your taxes for 2010.

    2) All checks should be made out to "Civil War Preservation Trust or CWPT. NOT ME

    3) You can send your checks to me at:

    Mike "Dusty" Chapman
    5734 N. 15th Street
    Arlington, VA 22205

    4) As I receive checks, I'll post the donors names here on the post (names only).

    5) Any size donation would be appreciated. Remember, this will be a group donation, so please donate what you can afford in these tough times.

    6) Include your suggestion of where the money should go to with your donation. I'll tally the results and post here for all to see. I don't need suggestions from those who can't/won't donate.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me at dustyswb@verizon.net.

To get the ball rolling, I'll pledge $50.00.

Hope to hear from some of you soon.

    Received donations from:

    Mel Hadden
    Marc Averill
    Ron Mueller
    Terre Lawson

Sir, for the sake of clarity, your first post has the date for the preservation drive in memory of Charles Heath, May 19 through the month of April 2010. This effort will be through the month of June, yes?

      Respectfully, Mel Hadden.

Yes, Mel, that is correct. Thanks for letting me know of the mistake.

Re: Donation in the memory of Charles Heath 2010

I had been waiting for an anticipated check before I sent this to the CWPT and I'm glad I did.

I sent the $330.00 raised to the CWPT's effort to save land at three battlefields; Ream's Station, Davis Bridge and Glendale (Charles like the Glendale battlefield very much). Our money will be matched by state and Federal money to multiple it by $7.35 to $1, making our donation $2,425.50.

Thanks to those who were able to make this donation in Charles's name.
