Re: American Battlefield Protection Program 2010 Grants
RICHMOND, KY (AP) - Madison County is receiving a $35,000 grant to develop a preservation plan for the areas of the Civil War Battle of Richmond that remain unprotected.
The National Park Service's Battlefield Protection program announced the grant.
The Richmond Register reports that the grant was one of 25 awarded this year to aid in the preservation of battle sites. The grant will allow the county to study the feasibility of acquiring additional property for preservation.
The battle was the first major engagement of the 1862 Confederate invasion of Kentucky.
