Culpeper National Cemetery will receive nearly $500,000 in federal stimulus money to update and maintain the historic burial ground that dates to the Civil War era.
The Department of Veterans Affairs announced this week that Culpeper and Winchester national cemeteries will receive a combined $915,331 for maintenance projects, repairs and equipment at the two sites.
In Culpeper $490,980 will fund the restoration of brick walls, $33,962 will go refurbish the Pennsyl-vania Monument and more than $39,000 will go toward equipment and vehicle purchases to support maintenance and interment operations.
Winchester received more than $350,000 for a headstone realignment and repair project.
To improve national cemeteries around the country, the VA has set aside approximately $50 million in stimulus funds for 391 projects at sites managed by the National Cemetery Administration.
Elsewhere, other anticipated projects include implementing energy conservation measures, road re-pairs and monument preservation work.
