Only January 21, 2012, at its Annual Meeting, the 26th NC completed its seventh flag project with the North Carolina Museum of History (NCMOH), as the battle flag of the 1st N.C. State Troops, captured at Spotsylvania Court House, was sent to the conservators used by the museum. At the conclusion of the meeting, the Regiment established a special collection with the NCMOH and the N. C. Division of Archives by donating several ambrotypes and original drill manuals belonging to original members of the 26th NC. Also donated were three complete original letter collections from members of the 26th NC. Donations will continue to the “Collection” as we purchase items pertaining to the original 26th NC.
Since 2004, the 26th NC has raised $100,371 for historical preservation, battlefield
preservation, artifact loans and monument placement.
Our next projects are the:
a) State Flag of the 33rd Regiment N. C. Troops captured at New Bern on March 14, 1862
b) Restoration of the Zeb Vance Monument in Asheville, NC
If you would like to support either of these projects please contact Skip Smith at col26nct@yahoo.com
