ARMY OF THE OHIO ANNOUNCES NEW OPPORTUNITIES TO HELP PRESERVE FLAG OF THE 25TH OVI.

Columbus, Ohio – The Army of the Ohio Civil War reenactors are pleased to announce two new opportunities to help preserve the regimental flag of the 25th Ohio Volunteer Infantry. An estimated $29,000 needs to be raised to preserve the 150 year old silk flag, which is cared for by the Ohio Historical Society.

The adopt the Soldier program allows donors who contribute $50, $100 or $250 to adopt one of the hundreds of Soldiers, non-commissioned officers or commissioned officers on the rolls of the regiment. Each donor will receive a certificate with the name and service information of their adopted Soldier.

“This flag represents the honor and integrity of the unit. For 150 years it has told the story of their contribution to and sacrifice for this country” says Colonel Bob Minton, commander of the Army of the Ohio and Fostoria, Ohio resident. “Every Soldier adopted puts us one step closer to preserving their sacrifice and telling their story for another 150 years.”

The 25th Ohio was organized at Camp Chase, Ohio on June 28, 1861 and served in the eastern theater. At the Battle of Gettysburg in July 1863 the regiment sustained a loss of 179 of the 220 officers and men it went into battle with. The 25th remained in service until April 1866.

“There were 18 color bearers killed or wounded from the 25th during the war. Eight of those were at Gettysburg.” Minton added.

In addition to the adoption program, the Army of the Ohio recently unveiled a new t-shirt that is dedicated to the flags of Gettysburg. The shirt contains images of 10 flags of Ohio and New York regiments, including the 25th Ohio, which fought at the 1863 battle.
The shirts are available for a suggested donation of $15 each or two for $25.

To make a donation or to adopt a Soldier visit the Army of the Ohio’s website at www.armyoftheohio.com and click on the “Make a Donation” tab.

The Army of the Ohio was organized in 1999 to combine the strength of American Civil War reenacting units from Ohio and surrounding states. Currently infantry, artillery and cavalry units from Ohio and New York comprise the group.

Re: Army of the Ohio announces new opportunities to help preserve flag of the 25th OVI.

      Team,
The Army of the Ohio has just under $4,000 left to reach our $30,000 goal for the preservation of the 25th OVI flag. If you have not had the opportunity to stop by our preservation center and pick something up to support this endeavor, please do so. Available for a donation are DVD's for The Light of Freedom, the independent movie project we worked on in 2012 that contains story lines based on the 14th OVI in the 1861 Western Virginia campaign. Including Corricks Ford! You know, some one should build an event around that battle, this could be a great primer! Hmmmmmm....... We appreciate everyone's support over the past 3 years with the two flag preservation campaigns. We have raised about $40,3000 during that time for the Ohio Battle Flag collection. Please help us reach the finish line if you can. http://www.armyoftheohio.com/donations.asp

The Army of the Ohio is proud to announce that with the money raised at Ohio Village this weekend we have reached our goal of $29,000 for the preservation of the 25th Ohio regimental flag. This makes $43,000 raised for the Ohio Battle Flag Collection since 2011 directly preserving the 23d and 25th Ohio flags. Thank you to everyone who has contributed to the campaign. Also a big thanks to all the members of the AotO who have given time to raise the money!
