  • Sleeping Caps for Mansfield Preservation

As I looked out the window at the newfallen snow yesterday, I felt a pang a bit like the mothers of old. My sons are at SFS this weekend, and I hope they are warm and dry. At least they have warm sleeping caps and socks. It got me thinking. Joe Hoffman's site is sold out of sleeping caps right now, and some people might be planning to attend a chilly event soon.

I'd like to donate 3 new sleeping caps to the preservation cause at Mansfield. It will be made in your choice of wool, lined with homespun, osnaburg, or cotton, and hand topstitched along the edge. The edge can be folded up for chilly nights around the fire, and folded down over your face for sleeping when the air is so cold that it hurts to breathe.

I respectfully request $45 for each hat. Every penny will go to support Mansfield. It's an important place, and this is a great window of opportunity to support it. The thread below tells how each donation will be matched 3 to 1.

If you're interested, please tell me your head circumference and wool color choice. If you have a lining preference, please say; otherwise, I'll choose one that goes with your wool choice. If you'd like it to go with your eyes, please tell me your eye color, too. Inside the envelope, you will find a package wrapped in brown paper and twine and addressed to you at your company (please specify) in Spencerian handwriting. Rewrap it and have it delivered to you at mail call at your next event.

    Color choices of wool:

    woven shades of brown
    small plaid brown
    navy (not purple)
    sage green
gray shoddy (as in attached photos)
    medium gray
    charcoal gray

As the deadline for the raffle is here, Doug Cooper suggested that I handle this directly and send him one check by March 27th.

    My e-mail address is dkbrad@hotmail.com

Please help the cause and stay warm at the same time!

    Thank you,

Kathy that is a kind and generous offer and we thank you for it! Suggest you also advertise on the for sale forum in here and over on the Szabo forum at www.cwreenactors.com. It may get into the low 40's at night at Mansfield - will pass this around the battalion as well - thanks!

Re: Sleeping Caps for Mansfield Preservation

Thank you to the gentlemen who have claimed all three sleeping caps. The first is nearing completion and work on the second and third will commence shortly. Because of you and the matching monies, $405 will soon be put toward preserving an important piece of history.

I hope your sleeping caps warm both your heads and hearts in the knowledge that you have done something to make a difference.

        Thanks again,

Wow that did not take long - one thing these boys know is good caps and a good cause when they see it. You put both together and again, thanks so much for your kindness and dedication.
