Provide Funding to Conserve the USS Monitor Collection

The Mariners’ Museum is temporarily closing the 5,000-square-foot Wet Lab that houses the American Civil War ironclad USS Monitor’s gun turret and other large artifacts following the Dec. 31, 2013 expiration of an agreement with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s (NOAA's) National Marine Sanctuary Program. The priceless artifacts inside this lab, recovered from the wreck of the USS Monitor, are federally-owned and administered by NOAA's Monitor National Marine Sanctuary but conserved by staff from The Mariners' Museum.

Thanks Eric! Everyone please take 3 minutes of your time to sign this petition. If the turret is lost due to a lack of funding, all the previous efforts were for nothing and we will lose further knowledge of the turning point in Naval warfare.

Signed the petition. Congress can fund every other cockamamie thing that passes for "important". Let's hope they can focus on something important for a change.

A Virginia legislator John Miller has submitted a state budget amendment which if it passes will help keep this ship afloat (haha) until the Federal budget is corrected.

The most important ships in our Navy prior to 1900 were the Constitution and the Monitor. It is unconscionable that one could be lost due to "budget constraints" which is code for "bad planning" and "wrong priorities." This was easy to sign, thanks Eric!
