Some of the bloodiest fighting during the Battle of Perryville happened around the historic Dixville Crossroads. This area was a valuable strategic area as the Benton and Mackville Roads intersected at the crossroads. Today the area is occupied by Hayes-Mayes Rd. and Whites Rd. The 22nd Indiana took over 60% casualties in the fields surrounding the crossroads. We are working hard to return that area to its historic appearance. We will also be constructing split rail fences that will better define park land. Please come out and lend a hand.
