A mayor who "considers herself a historian and an environmentalist"? A very odd use of the word "historian"...I suppose we can look up her publications in the field...

Maybe when medical issues loom she considers herself a physician, too, and considers herself an economist when related issues arise. Anyway, thanks for keeping us appraised -

James Island Town Council member Joe Qualey will re-introduce the resolution to oppose the development of Morris island at the next Council meeting on April 6th at 7 PM. We need a crowd at the meeting - please spread the word!

James Island Town Hall is at Dills Bluff and Camp Road.

            Doug,
Nora had to go to Chicago unexpectedly for a death in her family. She should be back in her rifle pit helping defend Morris Island on Wednesday. Allow me to provide the info. you seek in her absence.

Thanks Keith! Think I know where you will be that day. Good luck.

This seems on the surface like a no-brainer - does this clown have committments from folks who would actually buy a multi-million $ temporary (Hurricanes, erosion) mansion on the island? Strikes me that it is the east coast version of Malibu - beautiful but dicey to build a home there. In reality, what would such an exclusive development do for Charleston besides generate some property tax (offset by lost tourism perhaps)?

Frankly Doug, I feel these proposed properties would only appeal to the super-rich who typically don't give a spit about the need to preserve our heritage. Look, there will be no bridge to the mainland, no fire protection service, no surface ambulance service and insurability is basically impossible. The "development's" remoteness and fantastic views, would be the draw for folks who can afford a several million $ beach "cottage," and can afford to lose it in a storm. I've said before, these things would probably appeal to "Tony Montana" types who might just build new "forts" on Morris Island.

                Cordially,
