  • Cushing to finally recieve Congressional Medal of Honor

Per a CNN article posted today, the Whitehouse announced today that 1st Lt. Alonzo Cushing would receive the Congressional Medal of Honor for his actions at Gettysburg. Nice piece and long overdue!

Here is the link to the ABC article. Good to see they still recognize heroes from a time a lot of people have forgotten.

More than a century and a half after his death at the Battle of Gettysburg, a Union Army officer is being awarded the nation’s highest military decoration.

This has been a long drawn out effort. SEN Feingold introduced legislation in 2002, in 2010 the Army agreed and Sec Army McHugh recommended awarding the medal, and finally we got Congress and the Administration to get off their butts and make an easy decision to do the right thing. Cushing should have gotten the medal when Fuger was awarded it.
