  • A/C raising money for Chancellorsville

    All,

As some of you have seen in our Preservation Forum, 16+ acres have been purchased at Chancellorsville for $200,000. This money was fronted to the Central Virginia Battlefield Trust (CVBT) by two of it's members because the window of time to purchase this land was closing.

The CVBT is hoping to obtain a $150,000 grant from the Federal government and they have received $25,000 from the CWPT. That leaves $25,000 to be raised by the CVBT. Raising this money quickly will facilitate obtaining the $150,000 grant. Without the grant, the CVBT will have to raise the entire $175,000 needed to pay back the members.

With Paul's permission, I am heading an effort here on the A/C forum to raise money toward the $25,000 needed by the CVBT. If you would like to help the CVBT get their grant and preserve this important land at Chancellorsville, please send what you can. Make your check out to Central Virginia Battlefield Trust and put Chancellorsville in the memo line. Send your check to:

    Mike Chapman
    5734 N. 15th Street
    Arlington, VA 22205

By writing the check out to CVBT, you can deduct it from your taxes as a charitable donation. I will collect the checks, write a letter to CVBT and send the money on to them.

The CVBT allows you to make a donation by credit card also at:

    https://commerce.mindspring.com/www....orm_donate.htm

I would ask that you put Authentic Campaigner in the Organization block if you choose this option and email me when you do so so that I can include your amount in the letter to CVBT.

I would like to collect all money during the month of April and deliver it to them by the 141th anniversary of the battle of Chancellorsville.

As you can see, your donation will, in essence, amount to a 4-1 match, which means your $5 donation is used as $20 by the CVBT in acquiring this important land.

Thank you for your consideration in this important matter.

    Donations received from:

    Eliott Stringer
    Chris Curtis
    Eric Mink
    Dane Utter

Re: A/C raising money for Chancellorsville

      Here are some interesting statistics.

As defined in a survey completed as part of the 1993 Civil War Sites Advisory Commission Report to Congress, the Chancellorsville Battlefield Area is 21,874 acres in size, with 7,517 of that acreage being considered core battlefield, where the majority of significant fighting occured. To date, the National Park Service owns and has protected 2,250 acres and the CVBT has puchased 40 acres, for a total of 2,290 acres preserved, or 10% of the study area and 30% of the core of the Chancellorsville Battlefield, as surveyed by the CWSAC.

As of 2002, Spotsylvania County, Va. was the 16th fastest growing county in the United States. What isn't preserved today may be lost in the near future. Please consider helping the CVBT pay off their most recent acquisition of another 16+ acres within the core area of the battlefield.

Dusty - I have a Troiani print "Brothers of Ireland" which is the 69th NY and 9th Mass at Gaines Mill I could donate or raffle or whatever. Could CVBT use it?

          Hello Dusty,
I would put one of my Confederate Cartridge Boxes up for donation. You can donate it or raffle it off for the preservation. Just let me know.
          Thanks,

            Doug and Cary,

Thank you very much for your generous offers. Unfortunately, time is tight here and I would like to send the CVBT our collection by the 141st of Chancellorsville, only three weeks away. I don't think I could organize an effective raffle in that time frame.

Again, I appreciate the thought and willingness to help. Right now, a check is the most effective thing we can do for the CVBT.

Dusty - OK I will try to do the raffle thing on e-bay for the Troiani Print, though I just asked CVBT if they could use it to other purposes as well (Richmond NBP stuff for instance). I remember that Candace Rose was able to do the Ebay route for Pickett's Mill fence rails and it worked well.

The link for donations works well and is no muss no fuss!

                    Thanks Brian.

                    7 donations equaling $290 bucks.

                    Can we make it $300?

Thanks to those who have given. Two weeks left. Please help if you can.......

Letter I sent with checks to CBVT

                      PO Box 3417
                      Fredericksburg, VA 22402

                      Mr. Stevens,

My name is Mike Chapman and I am a CVBT member. When I saw your plea for the $50,000 needed to save the Talley Farm land, I went onto the Authentic Campaigner website, www.authentic-campaigner.com, and asked for help from my fellow re-enactors in raising money toward this cause. Because of the generosity of several members, I am happy to enclose checks in the total amount of $400.00 for the CVBT to use to help pay off the property.

Members of the forum that helped to raise this money were:

                      Michael Chapman
                      Brian Koenig
                      Dane Utter
                      Eric Mink
                      Chris Curtis
                      Eliott Stringer
Co. D, 27th VA, Stonewall Brigade
                      Tom Galleher (collected at Recon)

We all hope that our small donations allow the Trust to obtain the $150,000.00 grant that is available.

Thank you for your work in saving our battlefields.

THANKS TO THOSE WHO WERE ABLE TO GIVE.

Re: A/C raising money for Chancellorsville

I was remiss in not including Doug Cooper in the list of members that have sent donations to the CVBT. Instead of a check, Doug has donated a print directly to the CVBT for them to sell/raffle with all proceeds to go to this land acquisition.

Hopefully, his kind donation will double our efforts.

Thank you Doug, and sorry for the initial omission.....:(
