Save 19 Acres at Three Western Battlefields!
While the war in Virginia captivated the nation's attention in 1862, three key battles in the west kept Union hopes for victory afloat. Union victories at Mill Springs, Perryville, and Stones River created momentum for the Federals in the Western Theater and buoyed northern morale in an otherwise difficult year. Following the last of these battles, Stones River, Abraham Lincoln wired Union Gen. William S. Rosecrans to thank him for “a hard-earned victory, which had there been a defeat instead, the nation could scarcely have lived over.” By year's end, the Federals controlled Kentucky and had made serious inroads in middle Tennessee. The war was far from over, but ground had been gained and continued success for Northern arms in the coming year seemed imminent.
The Civil War Trust has saved over 1,500 acres at Mill Springs, Perryville, and Stones River, three crucial battlefields in the Western Theater. Now, thanks to a combination of grants and federal funds, we have the opportunity to add 19 acres to these important sites. With your help, we can not only add to the number of acres saved at these battlefields, but also ensure that these places—hallowed by the blood of our forefathers—are protected and remembered for generations to come.

Re: Western campaign sites need help

Just sent in a donation, and I'm glad to see some more focus on preserving the "Western Theater" battlefields.
