One must also note that the monument stands in Freedom Park among a walkable timeline of the American Civil Rights Movement. Does this teaching tool not demonstrate how far we have come as a city in 150 years?.

An online poll administered by WHAS 11 News denotes that 93 percent of citizens polled disapprove of the monument’s removal. As of May 3, 11,059 citizens participated in the poll.
They chose the losing side in a war in a divided state in a divided country. The men in who's honor that monument was placed swore an oath to do their duty and follow orders, just as our service men and women do today. Many people today question whether the conflicts of our current generation are just, warranted, or wise. But, we don't take that frustration out on those who serve... we wouldn't dream of it!

One wonders how many veterans are among the ranks of those trying to remove monuments dedicated to the common soldier...

We would like to ask them:

    "Where did YOU serve?"

Wow! 93 percent is a winning number in my book.
