"Limited view in the basement" ? -- I viewed it several times over the years. But then I went out of my way to visit the park. Seems odd that they made such an effort to restore the painting of the battles around Atlanta but wanted to return the Texas to the color scheme it had after the war. Will still be fun to see it again. I hope they at least plan to continue to have illustrations of what it looked like during the Great Locomotive Chase.

That is odd...I had no idea they did that,sounds like the wrong people making decisions....it should have been it's wartime color

Paint restoration is often based on chemical analysis of paint fragments underneath the top coats to find exact pigment matches, at least with historic structures. Perhaps the conservators could not find the 1860s paint layer?
