Antietam Preservation March

Just received a copy of Camp Chase and was thrilled to read the article on last year's Antietam Preservation march by Kevin O'Bierne. What jumped out at me was the truly impressive amount raised for preservation - $11,300 by a 125 man battalion. Wow - and even better was the 8-1 match that was engineered by CWPT in response - we are talking over $80,000! I don't remember reading that number on the forum at the time but could have missed it. A fantastic achievement, mostly done by the rank and file selling small preservation decals.

Not sure this effort got the press it deserved but it does now - read the article in Camp Chase, a good one.

I paid a visit out to Antietam on the Saturday of the march and saw the group at the Mumma Farm. I introduced myself to Kevin and his staff and they asked me questions concerning the situation at Chancellorsville, which was a hot topic at the time.They battalion looked great marching off to the cornfield. I was glad to play a small part by selling 20 decals for the effort......

A2003 was an excellent event that was well planned and executed, although it was largely overshadowed by marketing for other events at that time. It stands as yet another good example of how to pool resources and assemble a great NPS interpretive program. It's a shame more living history oriented reenactors weren't able to make the long drive to Maryland to attend it. Maybe Camp Chase Gazette will grace my own mailbox by Monday, so I can read this good stuff, although it is probably similar to what was previously published in the Columbia Examiner.

Hats off to Jeff Henion, Jim Doyle, and the Kabuki team.
