  • Artillery Preservation Grants?

Comrades - have been attempting to raise funds out here in Idaho to preserve and mount on a carriage the CS Paxton 6lb Field Gun (one of a kind) that you have heard me speak of before. Not the easiest task I have ever taken on. Have given some talks and contacted businesses and historical societies but Confederate cannons are not numero uno on the priority list out here, esp with the Lewis and Clarke Bicentennial underway.

Are there any organizations that offer grants for cannon preservation and mounting? We have several quotes from the usual suspects to mount it, and we are talking 9-10K, of which we have scatched out about $500 so far.

Any help would be appreciated and thanks in advance.

Contact your local American Legion Hall as well as the National SCV you should be able to get some assistance from them. Also hit up your local Wal Mart, believe it or not that kind of thing is right up their ally, especially if you can make it a local community thing.

Johan - thanks, the local AL Hall was where the gun first sat (actually was in front of the 2 man GAR Hall in the little town of Payette). I will try the SCV. Walmart cares not about a little town an hour away from their closest store, unfortunately.

You might also try the SUVCW, at the very least they can give you some publicity.
