  • Phase 1 Complete on one of Richmond's Early Landmarks

While not specific to the Civil War the Monumental Church is one of Richmond's landmarks that was standing for decades before the war.

The images and more information about the Monumental Church can be seen at: http://www.historicrichmond.com/monumental.html and is certainly a welcome site when driving through Richmond.

One slave was involved in heroic deeds during the 1811 Richmond Theater fire which led to many deaths, including the Governor of Virginia. An image of him can be seen at: http://www.rev.net/~hmcmanus/slave.html It lists him as saving people at a Richmond Theater fire in 1836, don't know about that one but I do know he was at the 1811 fire. He died in 1863, a free man.
    Sincerely,
    Emmanuel Dabney
