From the Wednesday, 14 July 04, edition of the Daily Corinthian:
Countdown under way for opening of center
In less than two weeks, years of dreaming, planning, hard work and perseverance for the citizens of Corinth will finally pay off as visitors begin streaming into the Corinth Civil War Interpretive Center for the very first time.
Opening ceremonies for the $9.5 million center are set for 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 24, at the center on Linden Street near the site of Battery Robinett.
The center represents the culmination of years of effort by concerned civic leaders and government officials and is intended to serve as the nucleus for Civil War study and tourism in Northeast Mississippi and Western Tennessee.
The official opening ceremonies will begin with a performance by the Community Chorus of Corinth and the Corinth Symphony Orchestra. Soloist Jane Redding-Marrero will perform with the musical groups. Redding-Marrero is a native of Alcorn County.
