Looks like the Save the Franklin Battlefield folks will be needing some money soon. A donation to the STFB through the Authentic Campaigner Preservation Project will get your money to them by January of 2005, in plenty of time to help out conserve this land on the battlefield.

Plus July is full of other incentives for your donations.......

        Cullen,

The country club is already there and the revenues from the golf course very likely spared that land from development. Had the course not been there all these years, and had Mr. Heller not purchased that land, it would have almost undoubtedly been developed by now.

Remember, portions of the Petersburg battlefield were saved because they were part of a golf course at one time as well. (Shockingly, the Crater was used as a hazard!) While golf courses are a far from perfect way to save land, they are infinitely preferable to townhouses!

The task now is for a preservation group to buy the land and preserve it for future generations.

Ok.Thank you for the correction.I didn't know the Crater was used on a golf course. My mom use to play in it with her bros and sis before the berrickade was built.Well,at least they were transformed back to the battlefield.
