  • No Casino volunteers needed

We will be meeting on Remembrance Day at 10am at Aces High, which is located at 433 Baltimore Street (across from the Gettysburg School District campus and where the parade starts). Aces High is one of the local businesses that opposes the casino and has offered us use of space for a brief meeting. CWPT staff will be on-hand to explain the current situation with the casino. From there, we will hit the streets to pass out the No Casino flyers until 1pm, which is when the parade begins. Our goal is to canvas the Baltimore and Steinwher locale.

We are looking for anyone that can help, for as much time as they have available, to hand out the flyers.

Gang this is an easy one - if you care about this issue, and don't want to see our heritage trampled, hallowed ground desecrated nor good folks in Gettysburg driven out of business whom we have visited for years...add an hour to your Remembrance Day visit to help pass out flyers.

Two weekends ago we gathered for the SG Picket Post and drove around all over town gauging the number of No vs Pro Casino signs. It was not even close - at least 10-1 No that we saw. Unless you are a bail bondsman, out of work or a taxi driver, a Casino will not be good for business...let alone the terrible effect it will have on historical tourism and most importantly, dishonor one of the most hallowed places in America.

The entire country is astounded that there is even a debate here...support the old soldiers and the good business people and residents of Gettysburg. Let's help show the greedy and misguided few that a Casino does not belong in Gettysburg.

      Re: No Casino volunteers needed

I am sorry I cannot participate, but will in spirit and protest as loud as I can from a distance. Knowing the ill's of gambling on society firsthand in Louisiana and Mississippi I can guarantee you that Gettysburg would change for the worse. I won't belabor arguments that we are all too familar with, but I will say that I for one would not be so inclined to visit the area if it were to allow the proposition to pass. I refuse to support a casino... period, but loath the fact that the "casino ticks" want to infest one of my favorite historic, charming, solemn, and beautiful places to visit. I wish every casino was "laid up in hell with their back broke !"

With kindest regards I wish for great weather and a strong show of support in every sense of the word.

The first 2100 slot machines are on their way to Philadelphia. Our local news(ABC) is reporting the next shipment is being prepared for Gettysburg as I type this. How can that be if there's no liscense as of yet?

Sounds like presumptive reporting to me. The fat lady hasn't sung on this one and we sure would welcome anyone willing to help us spread the word on Remembrance Day (November 18). If you've got some free time that morning, send Dusty or me a PM.

                Pards,
I signed the petition, and sent a link to all that I know to sign it too. I wish I could do more, but as of now it's the best I can do. I have never been to Gettysburg, and when I get there I'd rather see campfires instead of flashing neon lights!!!:tounge_sm

                    How's that again?

When I first read the title of this thread, I was dumbfounded - it seemed to say that no volunteers were needed. Say what?

Perhaps a bit of punctuation would not come amiss, as in

                      John and Jay,

Thanks for your interest and willingness to help. Again, we will be meeting at 10am this Saturday at Aces High Gallery - 433 Baltimore Street, adjacent to the Farnsworth House and across the street from where the parade forms. CWPT staff will be on hand to give us an update on the current situation regarding the casino and then we will hit the streets to pass out flyers.

If anyone else is available and would like to help, you can meet us there. If you're going to be in town this weekend, or anytime soon, please consider Chris' suggestion and patronize the businesses that have voiced oppostion to the casino.

Thanks to those who said they would show up and lend a hand. CWPT, NPCA and National Trust staff will be there to help and they will be providing the flyers Attached is a copy of what they came up with.
