  • How to Help No Casino Gettysburg Now

Listed below are three ways you can help stop the casino!

    1) How to Help No Casino Gettysburg Now

This is IT, the final month! The Pa Gaming Control Board says they will make a decision December 20, 2006. Keep the Goal in mind, visualize it and pray for it every day: A UNANIMOUS PGCB NO to Crossroads

WRITE and ASK the PGCB to reject Crossroads application (again).

They do NOT want to license a controversial site. WRITE TODAY and then once a week up to mid Dec. to the people who make the final decision.

    PA Gaming Control Board
    P.O. Box 69060
    Harrisburg, PA 17106
    PGCB@state.pa.us www.pgcb.state.pa.us
    717-346-8300

Write to Silver Point, the hedge fund that is financing Crossroads since Morgan Stanley dropped out. (Possibly MS dropped Crossroads after getting so many letters!)

    Edward Mule' or Robert O'Shea
    Silver Point Capital
    2 Greenwich Plaza
    Greenwich, CT 06830
    203 542 4200

    2) Attend the Dec 4 Hearing of Crossroads before the PGCB.

Meet us December 4, 2006 at 2PM at Preservation Pennsylvania, 257 North Street, Harrisburg. They will have refreshments, buttons and t-shirts, and we can walk together to the 3:30 hearing at the State Museum at 3rd and North. We can’t speak during Crossroads presentation, but our presence will show continued, overwhelming opposition to Crossroads proposal.

    3) Help us with Fundraising

Our Silent Action was a great success so we now are projecting a need for $25,000 before December 20 to complete paying for our legal zoning fight in Straban Township, and continue public pressure up until the point of decision. IF the PGCB licenses this site we will appeal. We have no paid staff. So far we have spent thousands for website, telephone, reproduction of materials, printing and design of brochures, legal fees, gas and parking fees for lobbying/ attendance at every PGCB meeting, t-shirts, signs, buttons, bumper stickers etc.

Can you tell your friends how important Gettysburg is to you and to the nation? We’ve all been surprised to find that we could get contributions when we ask, because Gettysburg is America’s most beloved small town.

WE CAN NOW ACCEPT DONATIONS ONLINE on our site, www.nocasinogettysburg.com

    Thanks for your continued support.

    Mr. Daley,
I sent an E-mail to the PA Gaming Control Board, imploring them to reject the Crossroads application. I have never been to Gettysburg, but plan to come in 07. I want to see camp fires, not neon lights! I will continue to send E-mails to them untill the deadline.:baring_te

Information will be forthcoming on our ammended plans to meet on the 13th instead of the 4th.

Re: How to Help No Casino Gettysburg Now

Here is the information on the meeting from the evening sun website. Wish I could be there but I am overseas on business at the moment...

Saying it needs more time to do background checks on a new investor, the state Gaming Control Board has pushed back a licensing hearing for a Gettysburg-area casino plan.

The hearing on the Crossroads Gaming Resort and Spa will be Dec. 13 at the State Museum Auditorium in Harrisburg. It was previously scheduled for Dec. 4.

The licensing hearings are a key step in the decision-making process because they give gaming regulators a chance to grill the slots applicants before deciding who gets the lucrative slots licenses.

Despite the change in the hearing schedule, the gaming board still hopes to award slots licenses on Dec. 20. Crossroads is vying for one of two licenses for standalone slots parlors outside of Philadelphia and Pittsburgh.

Gaming board spokesman Doug Harbach said the hearing was pushed back so that gaming board staffers can do the background work on Silver Point Capital LP, a Connecticut investment firm that recently replaced Morgan Stanley as the plan's largest investor.

Casino foes were disappointed by the new hearing date.

Susan Star Paddock, who chairs No Casino Gettysburg, wondered if the gaming board will find it harder to rule on the Crossroads plan by Dec. 20.

"I'm troubled just because I want the board to vote 'no' as soon as possible," Star Paddock said.

Harbach said the gaming board will have enough time to reach a decision.

"The board feels it will be able to weigh all the information it has already received and will receive at the licensing hearing and be able to vote on Dec. 20," Harbach said.

Crossroads spokesman David La Torre said Tuesday that casino investors are ready to testify and Crossroads looks forward to making its case before the board.

"We certainly respect their need for more time," La Torre said. "They're up against a Dec. 20 deadline to announce the winners of these licenses, and they've got a lot of work to do."

A group of investors led by Gettysburg businessman David LeVan proposed the Crossroads complex at routes 30 and 15 in Straban Township, and the proposal has sparked fierce debate.

Crossroads has argued it would bring jobs and tax revenue to the area, while critics say it would threaten historical tourism and doesn't belong near the battlefields.

The debate intensified Monday when Preservation Pennsylvania, a nonprofit historic group, listed the battlefield as the state's most endangered historic place because of the casino plan.

On Dec. 13, the Crossroads hearing will be the second proposal to go before the board, after a plan for the Lehigh Valley Tropicana in Allentown. Crossroads' testimony likely will begin in the early afternoon.

          MARK YOUR CALENDARS:

What: Licensing hearing for Crossroads Gaming Resort and Spa

          When: Dec. 13

Where: State Museum Auditorium, 3rd and North streets, Harrisburg

Just on the news this morning. Our newly elected speaker of the house here in PA wishes to expand the casinos to include gaming tables so we can compete with the surrounding states. PAonline.com should have the skinny.

Local news also carried a story this morning that the Gov. just approved a measure that would allow the casinos to serve multiple free drinks. Currently you are only allowed to serve one free drink. I guess the theory is to get them drunk and drain their wallets.

Get on the band wagon everyone. Let a little technology help you too. Just email the PA state board; then save a copy to email it the next day, then the next ect. I'm sure that some of our computer savy members could probably even automate the process.
