Preservation Research Paper

Hello All,

I am in the process of writing a research paper for high school on should we as Americans be preserving more historical grounds and structures. Of course my stance is yes we shouold. I have done a good deal of research myself of course, and I was looking for a little guidance to supplement the research I already have. I am looking for statistics opinions and facts on American historical Preservation. Any and all guidance out there would be greatly appreciated.

You mentioned you had done a lot of your own research but you have provided none of it in this thread. You'll find this community very willing to lend a hand when a modicum of effort is demonstrated on your part.

Very well, I completely understand. So far I have discovered the Civil War Preservation Trust, various visits to battlefields i.e. gettysburg, fredricksburg, manassas etc. Also a personal interview with the director of a local historic site. Finally variouos articles on the Gettysburg Casino case. Hope this helps.

The American version of the National Trust may be able to provide you with information, also.

They are probably beyond your paper, but if you are doing a senior honors paper you may wish to look through some of the ACRA-L archives for some more recent preservation controversies. In December, for example, there was a discussion on the procedures used by agencies to decide what's worthy of preserving (here).

In the end it comes down to someone having to make a final decision on what gets saved and who pays for it.
