  • McRae Papers donation

    Folks,

You may remember the CS haversacks I was offering last year. I have only one left. It sells for $275.00.

I will offer this one for $275.00, of which I will will donate $50 to the McRae papers fundraising effort.

To see this haversack go to http://home.earthlink.net/~cwkepi/id3.html

    Thanks, Greg Starbuck

    Thanks Greg!

That's a very generous offer. I'm biased of course as I purchased one of these last year and couldn't be happier. Anyone who does an ANV officer impression should seriously take a look at this offer. Thanks again Greg, your always a strong supporter of good causes!

The haversack is sold pending payment. I'll have a check to Shirley soon.

Maybe we can figure out a SC kepi fundraiser for McRae. Any suggestions?

        Sincerely,

          Hmmm,

I dunno, how about a SC documented haversack? I know David Chinnis has done a number of the Yancy Dean haversacks. The original is at the SC State Museum. A very neat, all cotton, double bag variety with closure string. I love mice!

          Regards & Many Thanks!

              Neill-

I'm thinking a cap rather than a haversack. Haversacks don't thrill me as much. It would be nice to do an Inabinet kepi, but that something that needs to be discussed with the SCCRR first.

                Greg,

The Inabinet cap would be a great choice. I'd suggest contacting Sarah Wooton to discuss. The only hang-up is that it's a family loan and we'd need permission. Doubt it'd be a huge deal though. So folks know, the Inabinet cap is an ID'd 20th SCVI piece with a solid history. I've always believed it to be an aid society piece due to the funky cloth covered bone/seed buttons. The cap is rather crude and exhibits grey/brown jeans, very thin non-functional chin strap and a running stitch through the oilcloth sweatband. It also has a two piece body ie. no band and painted board visor. A great article for sure. Let's put our heads together and see if we can get the ball rolling!

Thanks for your efforts & interest,

                    Neill-

Next time you see Sarah or Allen, why don't you run it by them and see if they can figure a way to work it so that all parties are taken care of properly? I'm swamped trying to get my new visitor center operational, and also helping the Monitor Center with a project that is due before their opening.

We can probably work something out like we did with the Morgan cap ($20 or more per cap going to the SCCRR). E-mail me directly when you get some facts,

                    Regards,

                    Greg Starbuck
