  • Hey Georgians!

For those of you who live in Georgia and who have not heard I wanted to bring to your attention an ongoing campaign by the Georgia State Historic Preservation Office (GASHPO) to fund the Georgia Heritage Grant program (which has seen its legislative funding decline dramatically over the last few years). Please see the excerpt below from the weekly GASHPO newsletter:

"We need your help as our preservation network in this campaign. Please help us spread the word that $22 from each $25 license tag fee will go directly to funding the Georgia Heritage Grant Program. These grants help stabilize, rehabilitate, and preserve important landmarks across the state by matching funds with grant recipients who propose worthwhile development and predevelopment projects.

Visit HPD's Web site at www.gashpo.org to order your tag today. For more information, contact grants coordinator Carole Moore at 404-463-8434 or e-mail carole_moore@dnr.state.ga.us."

The GASHPO must obtain 1000 pre-paid orders for the specialty license tag before they can go into production and statewide circulation. Please take the time to visit the website (www.gashpo.org) and view the design and place an order. Many Civil War related sites and buildings could benefit from this funding source if they are successful in obtaining the 1000 pre-orders (they are a little over half way there!)

PLEASE CONSIDER THIS $25 CONTRIBUTION TO HELP PRESEVE GEORGIA'S HERITAGE!

Thanks to George Bellew to pointing this out to me.

    Chris,

I printed the necessary paperwork and I am purchasing one of these tags. I know there are many lurking Georgians on this website so lets help historical preservation in our state.
