Not necessarily - unless artillery reenacting has changed substantially in the last couple of years and I'm somehow unaware of the change.

Forgive me. I don't know much about artillery reenactors. I figured artillery reenactors knew about the artillery the same way we know about the infantry.

Re: Vermont Tries to Take Back Civil War Cannon

In my humble opinion, many Artillery reenactors know how the artillery lived and acted. The question would be do most portray them right? I started with a mainstream artillery group and many are still with the original group. I would say that they know their history and weapons, but their uniforms would be considered mainstream and the camps are set up with their families. Overall, you don't see too many progressive/hardcore artillery units out there. I know that there are some, but I have never met them personally. I have seen a couple of artty units that look great, but never had the honor of meeting them

As far as the article is concerned, the cannon should go back to the state. Not only does the state own it, but also Vermont wants to use the piece for a museum display. I may have a different opinion if the state would put it in storage and keep it out of public sight.
