Well, after years of neglect and state budget constraints, it appears that Mississippi is considering tearing down the Coker House. The Mudsills donated thousands of dollars back in the 1980s for its preservation, now it is threatened with demolition.

Re: Coker House
Ok, I wasn't familiar with this structure, but if the CWPT is working to preserve land at Champion Hill, how can they let this neglect continue to an important period building? I am assuming they felt the current stewards were up to the task but sadly this (apparently) is not the case.
I suppose climate factors into this but I would have expected only some peeling paint or wind damage to shingles after less than 20 years -- to be this bad off now, there must have had some structural damage, dry rot or whatever that was allowed to worsen.
What can we do at this point? I sent in my renewal to CWPT last month but haven't gotten Hallowed Ground. Is it mentioned there?
Ever forward,

Re: Coker House
The photo I have posted I took of the house a year ago...I was just there after the Vicksburg: Life on the Line event, and it looks worst!:(
That is a good question about the CWPT preserving the Champion Hill land, but not the Coker House.
There must be legalities involved with ownership.

Re: Coker House
NOT THE BEVERLY DRIVE IN TOO!
Personally the same can be said for the Shirley House inside of Vicksburg, the house has been only structurally secured and needs to be redone inside and out. It would actually be cheaper to build another one than restore the current one, which was probably the case with the Coker House. Really doesn't shock me with the backwards assed money stealing ways of our state's political names.Patrick Landrum
