America’s Civil War battlefields are in danger! The Civil War Preservation Trust (CWPT) is asking all friends of Civil War history and battlefield preservation across the country to contact your U.S. Senators and Representative and urge them to cosponsor the Civil War Battlefield Preservation Act of 2007, H.R. 2933 in the House and S. 1921 in the Senate. This bill would reauthorize the Civil War Battlefield Preservation Program, which has become the primary federal program for preserving battlefield land and calls for $10 million a year for five years to preserve historic battlefields in the U.S.
Washington officials need to know how concerned people are about Civil War battlefield preservation! CWPT is urging all Civil War reenactment groups to place phone calls, emails or write letters to your Senators’ and Representative’s office. Believe it or not, communication from concerned constituents can have a dramatic impact on elected officials, and is a great way to show how important it is that they cosponsor the Civil War Battlefield Preservation Act of 2007.

We have made it as easy as possible to contact your legislators in Washington, D.C. by providing sample letters and phone scripts, along with any other information you might need on the Civil War Battlefield Preservation Act, on our new website at www.battlefieldactivist.com. On this site you can also find contact information for your elected officials, as well as a full list of Senators and Representatives who have already signed on as cosponsors.

CWPT is happy to help you answer any questions you may have – please contact Brent Laurenz at takeaction@civilwar.org or 800-298-7878 ext. 220 if you need assistance or have any other questions regarding this important piece of legislation.
    Sincerely,

    Brent Laurenz
