State to give grant to Parker's Crossroads
The state will give the city of Parker's Crossroads a grant of $302,699 to help develop a visitor center off Interstate 40, Gov. Phil Bredesen announced.
The Parkers Crossroads Visitor Center will be housed in a renovated building on Tenn. 22 at I-40 exit 108, according to a press release. The grant will provide funds to renovate the 3,271-square-foot building.
"A new visitor center in Henderson County will be another stop along our interstate system for rest and information," Bredesen said in the release.
"This is an exciting project for Henderson County," said state Sen. Roy Herron, D-Dresden. "I'm looking forward to this renovation project moving forward."
State Rep. Steve McDaniel, R-Parker's Crossroads, said, "Preserving our history has always been a big part of my life, and Parker's Crossroads had a significant role in Tennessee's history. No one can be happier than I, to see a visitor center developed on this historical site."
The grant is made possible through a federally funded program administered by the Tennessee Department of Transportation.
