  • "BUMMERS" Preservation - Wray Collection

All Net Proceeds from the Bummers 2009 Event will go toward saving the George W. Wray Jr. Civil War Collection at the Atlanta History Center (AHC).

The Wray Collection is considered among the finest and most important private collections of Confederate artifacts in the United States. Beginning in 1948 at the age of fourteen, Mr. Wray assembled this remarkable collection of Confederate enlisted men’s uniforms, previously unknown flags, and many of the few surviving examples of Southern-made firearms, bayonets, and artillery pieces. Along the way, he meticulously researched the original owners and makers of some one thousand individual artifacts. To read more, Click Here.

We have added a lot of updates to the web site regarding details about the event. Visit this thread to read more: Click Here.

The Atlanta History Center is sending me some photos of the collection. I should have the disk within the next week. I will create a gallery on our web site so you can physically see what we will be working towards. I will post in this folder once the gallery is up on the site.

More details to come, including fund-raising efforts, etc.

Re: "BUMMERS" Preservation - Wray Collection

I've read articles in the paper about the AHC getting this collection. If anyone has seen the "Turning Point" exhibit, then you know that the Wray collection is going to only just add more to the exhibit. Coley was right to suggest that the AHC's collection be the top choice for the Bummers preservation effort.
