Called after work today and left a message on the machine. Will try again tomorrow until I get a human on the phone.

      Re: Development at Perryville

I got the same lady, was very polite but to the point. If you keep the phone calls under one minute and provide your name and number, you have done the job. A bunch of long calls by a few people is less impressive than back-to-back constant calls from around the country. The more names they get, the better. Faxes and emails are good too.

For a little variety (and the fact that I can't call during the day) I sent an email.

I did however, sic my mama-in-law on 'em, and she can call during the day. Eighty five pounds of silver haired southern lady, with age rapidly approaching her weight. A classic southern debutant, with a sense of adventure--- in 1943 she spent her honeymoon on the Perryville Battlefield, tent camping with the love of her life, a freshly minted Navy officer who shipped out for the Pacific days later.

She's right fond of Moultrie and Sumter as well, having spent the duration of WWII and Korea in Charleston.

Re: I got through to the Perryville City Council - did you?

My husband and I both called today. I have to say that the outpouring of support is wonderful to see. We spend lots of time and Perryville. I learned quick that the battlefield didn't belong to me. My hands and heart belong in service to those acres. I've spent the last few years doing just that.

(That's a wonderful story Mis Terre. I had forgotten that)

            My sincerest thanks to all,

I called and got through at 8:45 EST, this morning. Nice lady on the other end. She said she got about 50 calls yesturday against and her answering machine was full this korning when she got to the office.

I asked and she said the only favorable responces she's received have been "from a few locals."

I got through at 9:45 Eastern Time yesterday and the Lady was very nice and did ask where I was from, which I gave her with no problems. Seems like they are getting enough of us to answer the call.

The nice lady wanted to know my name, state, and phone number. It sounds like they're keeping track of the number of calls and the place of origin. It only takes a minute. Let's make sure she has a very busy day.

It's great to see this response!

I tried yesterday afternoon, with no luck. But I just called a few minutes ago and got through with no trouble. A gentleman took my name, telephone number and my reasons for voicing opposition to the proposed subdivision development.
I told him that the Perryville battlefied is one of a precious few pristine battlefields left. And that this involves not just a Kentucky history matter, but a national heritage and pride issue.
