    All,

Since the ACPP began in 2004, you have donated over $16,000 to various preservation organizations, which are listed below.

Central Virginia Battlefield Trust - $2,502.00
Save the Franklin Battlefield - $1,441.00
Museum of the Confederacy - $920.00
    Beauvoir - $650.00
South Carolina Confederate Relic Room - $3,327.95
    Fort Wayne - $617.55
    Perryville - $500.00
Civil War Preservation Trust - $6,903.51

    Total - $16,862.01

2008 was the ACPP's most lucrative year, with nearly $4,500 going to the CWPT and SCCRR. $2,000.00 of that came from registration fees from the A/C forum.

In 2009, the ACPP will again raise money for the CWPT and I am happy to announce that our second beneficiary in 2009 will be Historic Sandusky http://www.historicsandusky.org. Greg Starbuck, Sandusky's executive director, has asked for our help to protect their collection of Civil War artifacts. See Greg's email below:

    Dear Mr. Chapman,

I submit for your consideration this proposal for sponsorship of a preservation project at Historic Sandusky in Lynchburg, Virginia.

The nature of this project should appeal to the material culture enthusiasts on the Authentic Campaigner Forum. These days we, like most other historic sites, are struggling to just pay the utility bills. However, there are still areas of need.

Our need is with our collections. We need to acquire a quantity of preservation/archival materials for proper storage of our artifacts. Years ago, in better times, we were able to purchase some book boxes, object boxes, and document sleeves. But we need more of these items.

Right now our collection items are relatively safe, but I need to get them into archival boxes.

Some of these fascinating items include:
    • Gen. Wm. B. Taliferro’s personal copy of Scott’s Infantry Tactics
    • Two Id’d Confederate Officer pistol holsters
    • One original LeMat Revolver
    • Military letter written by Gen. Zachary Taylor (ca. 1840s)
    • Original piece of the rope used to hang John Brown
    • Original Johnson’s Island prisoner-of-war autograph album
    • Three original military officer commissions signed by Monroe, Polk, and Calhoun
    • Original 1820’s Mason’s certificate
    • Original Confederate carried prayer book
    • US staff officers’ sword, 1850s, ID’d
    • Various Union soldier discharges, letters, and commissions
    • Mexican-War soldier letters
    • Original 19th C Virginia quilt
    • 1820s certificate of membership in the "ugly" club (seriously)
    • Original oil portraits
    • Confederate diary, for the year 1861
    • And much, much more.
I estimate that it will take about $1,000 of supplies to get these items stored in acid free boxes & sleeves. We would purchase these items from Gaylord, a popular museum archival supply house. (I should mention that orders placed with Gaylord’s in January are 10% off.

If the ACPP is able to sponsor this project what we can do for you is this:

Publicity of the sponsorship on the Sandusky website & in the Sandusky newsletter (2,000+ readership).

Accessibility of the collection to the AC readership. We can post photographs & content on the AC forum for members to research and enjoy.

Should you have any questions, please contact me. We are very hopeful that we can get these important artifacts some better storage.

    Sincerely,

    Gregory H. Starbuck
    Executive Director
    Historic Sandusky Foundation

If you want to send a check donation, please do so directly to the organizations. This is enable you to benefit from possible tax benefits.

Give if you can, as 100% goes to the CWPT and/or Historic Sandusky.
