There are a number of incentives for forum members to donate money toward the ACPP in the month of September.
1) Dan Houde of Orchard Hill Sutlery, www.orchardhillsutlery.com, has graciously offered one of his hand-made pocketknives to raise money for the ACPP during the month of September. He describes the knife as....
".......a two bladed "Curved Regular Swell End Jack", with highly polished "rounded" German silvers bolsters, natural smooth bone handles, brass liners, and German silver nails and pins."
The knife would retail for $135.00 in Dan's shop. With this in mind, the first donation to the ACPP of $140, received* in the calendar month of September, via Paypal or check, will receive this knife as a thank you for their donation.
Make your checks payable to either the "Central Virginia Preservation Trust" or the "Save the Franklin Battlefield Trust" and send it to me at:

If donating using Paypal, the email address is dustyswb@comcast.net. Please put "CVBT" or "STFB" on the form so I know which organization will benefit from your donation.
2) In remembrance of the men of both sides that fought and died during the Antietam/Maryland Campaign in 1862, I will personally donated an additional $5 (up to $100) to any donation (minimum $5) made during the days of September 13 - 17, 2004. If a donation is made for $5, it will be doubled. If a donation is made for $25, I will add another $5 to it. (For tax purposes, only your direct donation will be acknowledged by the organization as that is what your check will reflect)
So break that piggy bank and send in that extra $5 that you find on the floor of your car or in your couch!
3) Bill Cross has graciously donated a copy of The Journal of James Edmond Pease: A Civil War Union Soldier, which is part of the "Dear America" series for kids. It's a fictionalized account of a young Union soldier. The book is an acid-free paper collector's edition.
I have a signed copy of James I. Robertson's Standing Like a Stone Wall: The Life of General Thomas J. Jackson. Atheneum Books for Young Readers, New York, 2001.
This set of two books, one from each "side", would make fine additions to any child's library and maybe bring some young man into the hobby in the future. We all remember our first Civil War book, don't we?
The set will be sent to the first donor of $50 or more received* during the calendar month of September. (claimed by Bill Rodman)
4) In keeping with the spirit of donation to the cause, I (Doug Cooper)will donate the following for the next two folks who donate $50 each to either Chancellorsville or Franklin via ACPP:
1. A pair of new extra rich federal infantry Capt shoulder straps by Wendy Osman
2. A mint in dust jacket copy of Stephen W. Sears definitive study "Chancellorsville."
Thanks to Dan, Bill, Doug and all others who continue to support the ACPP!!! Onward to $4,000 by December 31, 2004.
*The same person cannot claim both incentives in the month of September.
