Bump as a reminder to those looking to give a late year tax deductible donation. The McRae papers needs our help and the CWPT speaks for itself.

                Give if you can.

                    Re: 2007 ACPP contributors

Many thanks for the tremendous support for the SC Confederate Relic Room and Military Museum's aquisition of the McRae Archival Collection. This letter has been mailed to Dusty and I would like to share it with all of you who have generously given to make this dream a reality:

                    December 11, 2007

                    Mr. Michael J. Chapman
                    Authentic Campaigner
                    5734 North 15th Street
                    Arlington, VA 222

                    Dear Dusty,

I would like to express my appreciation for the tremendous support by the members of The Authentic Campaigner for the acquisition of the McCrae Archives by the South Carolina Confederate Relic Room and Military Museum. Your recent donation of $1358 will help make this dream of acquiring this most significant collection a reality!
Thank you for your generous support of the acquisition of this collection. Your donation insures that the McRae Archives remains whole and available to scholars of American history throughout the world. This collection, independently appraised at $304,000, will be the foundation of an engaging and educational exhibit for the National Civil War Sesquicentennial in 2011 that will reflect positively on our Civil War heritage.
Thanks to this donation by the members of The Authentic Campaigner we are getting close to our initial goal of raising $125,000 by the end of January of 2007 to insure purchase of the McRae Archives for $250,000. We will keep you posted on developments regarding the eventual use and exhibit of this great collection. On behalf of the South Carolina Confederate Relic Room and Military Museum and the South Carolina Budget and Control Board, please accept my grateful appreciation.

                    Sincerely,

                        Re: 2007 ACPP contributors

Thank you very much to the 30 folks who made donations to the ACPP in 2007. As you can see, there were some who gave more than once.

A special thanks goes out to the vendors and members who donated goods and time to raise money for the ACPP this year.

                        Morris Clothier - Todd Morris
LD Haning & Co. - Tim Welch
                        Preservation Parcels - Kathleen Bradford

Since Paul Calloway allowed me to start the Authentic Campaigner Preservation Project in 2004, the ACPP has raised over $12,000 for preservation efforts of the following organizations:

Central Virginia Battlefield Trust - $2502.00
Save the Franklin Battlefield - $1441.00
Museum of the Confederacy - $920.00
                        Beauvoir - $650.00
South Carolina Conferate Relic Room - $1358.00
Civil War Preservation Trust - $5183.96

                        Total - $12,054.96

Thanks to Paul and Matt for allowing me to try to raise money for preservation using this wonderful site. It has been an honor to serve these men in the moderator capacity for these years.

In 2008, I'm going to continue raising moneyfor the CWPT and the SCCRR's McRae Papers collection. While the number of donors and the amount collected has decreased every year since the project's inception, I'm optimistic that 2008 will be a good year and we will be able to raise a combined $3,000 for the CWPT and SCCRR. With the impeding release of portions of the McRae Papers here on the forum, isn't it worth it to you to send even $5 to have the first look at this collection?

My email has changed this year to dustyswb@verizon.net, so you can use Paypal or send a check made out to the CWPT or SCCRR directly to the organization or to me at:

As always, give if you can and I hope everyone has a safe and pleasant 2008.

I sent the balance of the CWPT donation, $655.00, to the CWPT for their Slaughter Pen purchase today, 1/8/08.
