          Hey Gary,

I agree with you on the ladies, and think they had it down pretty good.

Our image was different, but, didn't appeal to the ones who vote for this time around!! All the images submitted for July were excellent. Tough choices! *sigh*;)

Going to go with #2 here, because it is a great contrast between the officer and the enlisted men.

#3 really blew me away. It nails to look of the time squarely on the head! If someone were to tell me it was a period picture I would believe them.

We would like to hear from those who submitted the images. What was your inspiration? Are you portraying a specific unit/time period? Is there an original photo that your image was based upon?

No. 2 was of mid to late war Western Confederate impressions. It was taken at the conclusion of the New Hope Church Event which took place on the grounds of the Battle of Picketts Mill (both were fought during Sherman's advance on Atlanta). The cabin which is in the image is an original period structure, and provided a great setting. The contrast between the Officer and the enlisted men was not fully by accident.

                          The Story of Three:

Many in the northeast are familiar with the long-running event that keeps Museum Village in Monroe, NY afloat. It's a quaint little event, that those of us who are local like to support. For the past several years, the Daybreaks have acted as the Federal infantry interpretive group, each year selecting a particular New York City-based unit to portray at a certain time and place.

This time, we had chosen Company A of the 25th NY Volunteer Infantry, known as the "Tenth Ward Rangers." This unit perfectly matched our quest for the "New Yorkiest of New York" units. At the time, I created a unit history website for the regiment, which remains online: http://www.myrtle-avenue.com/daybreak/25thnyvi/

Our image, while not based on any particular picture, was inspired by the scores of two-row outdoor images made of various AoP regiments. Every now and then, "support personnel" pop up in these images, be they teamsters, servants, or laundresses. In our case, Natalie Baur rolled up—or, in this case, detached—her sleeves and did a great job of shirt scrubbing, hence her "ask me how thrilled I am that these guys are living in my front yard" demeanor.
