  • Wanna Be on the August Cover of the AC?

    Greetings Everyone:

Well, it is the 20th of the month. So, the question is, "Do You Wanna Be on the August Cover of the Authentic Campaigner?"

We are looking for images that best-exemplify the look of the authentic living historian. Images taken with period technology only are required (wet plate, pencil drawing, field sketches, etc.) Please refrain from submitting an image that you have submitted within the last year. We are looking for new images and have a few days to gather the candidates. Let's keep things fresh. Thanks!

    Submission Guidelines:

    1) We will accept the first ten image submissions only. The thread will be closed after the tenth image is submitted, and any images submitted after the tenth will be deleted from the thread.

    2) Once we have ten images, the staff will select the final three. The final three will then be put up for a general vote to the membership of the forum. The winning image will be placed on the front "cover" of the web site for one month.

    3) Make sure and attach the photo to your post. If necessary, we will crop the photo for the best fit.

    4) The Moderators/Administrators reserve the right to remove any submittals that they feel don't meet the standards of the Authentic Campaigner.

Now, let's see your best images!

Please consider the following attatched image for the August cover of the A-C. It's an image of a few Confederate POWs captured at the Battle of New Hope Church, GA and a Union guard. Image by Wendell Decker.

    thanks.

Thanks to Paul Boccadoro for submitting my plate for me. I was suppossed to be gone for most of today so I asked him to submit it for me.
The above image was taken on June 29, 2008 at "At High Tide" by Todd Harrington.

I really wanted an image that wasn't "reenactorish". There are so many pictures taken today where the person just tries too hard to get "the look" of the period and ends up looking like a reenactor.

I based this picture off many of the Confederate portraits that I have viewed, both published and in private collections. The majority of the subjects pictured are quite simple looking and are not wearing all of their gear.

The jacket I am wearing belongs to Jason Spellman and was made by Jason Wickersty. It is based off a photo of three Confederates in the 12th Virginia photo attached on this post. The man on the far right is wearing it.
I thought that a waist up shot, wearing the jacket and holding the weapon would be a great shot that would mimick many of the period ones I've seen.
        Ill post a few examples:

For some reason I cant get the images to attach. Go here: http://skillygaleemess.blogspot.com/ and then to the photo gallery. Click on Confederate images and you will see about 5 images that mine resemble. Also, the 12th VA photo is on there too.

My Son was home on his mid tour leave from Iraq and we went to Gibson's in Gettysburg and had this taken. I am sure it does not fit what is being looked for. I am just proud of my boy and the 4th ID.
