  • Vote For the Cover - Special Poll

    Folks:

Several members have suggested that we put an image of a person in a period uniform with his son, who is wearing a modern military uniform on the cover. (View Thread Here). I should first state that in the past, we have had "special" covers for different occasions, so a precedent has been set before. I should also say that the central idea behind the cover in the first place was to show the public our best portrayals as we aspire for that "authentic" look.

I agree that the modern military has strong ties here. I also agree that to honor those ties would be appropriate for a special edition cover. The only problem is, if we allow Mr. Nott's image to go up this month, we are excluding others from the same chance... and I think that given the nature of our forum, we don't want to begin to allow covers that vary from our mission as the Authentic Campaigner on an on-going basis. With that in mind, we will do this as a one-time tribute to our modern military forces. I promised to post a poll on this topic, so I am doing so in the following manner:

Should we put the Nott image up this month and save the other nine submitted images for next month?

    -OR-

Should we run a special edition cover next month and allow people to submit modern military images and give other modern military images a fair shot?

This poll will be up for the next twenty-four hours, so get your votes in!

Nothing against the Nott's photo, it is a very nice and touching photo. Papa Nott good job and you have something there to be proud of! However, I agree that it would not be fair to all of the other Military connected members here on the A/C forum. Lets do the modern military image special next month!

Either way I'll be happy, but the Nott photo is simply moving and inspirational. I hope to see it on this months cover.

This great photo deserves the cover now, hands down.

Maybe in November for Veterans Day. Just a thought. I'm just happy my brother-in-law Sean is back from Iraq. He got back Wednesday and he registered for an event before he went to bed God Bless Him. :)

Re: Vote For the Cover - Special Poll

We could do the vote in November. I like that idea as well. Consider that an option for the second choice. Just remember that once we do it once, it may be a very long while until we do it again. I think that we have only done four "special" covers in the four years of doing this and doing something "unauthentic" once in a while is OK, but we need to maintain the integrity of the reason behind the cover and that is to show the outside world what we think are our best impressions. Vote now! This poll will close tomorrow at 7:18 PM.

                            Eric,
You did right by placing the issue up for vote. Now, it is up to us to talk it to death. This is a "one time thing", it is an unusual picture, we like it ...and if it gets the vote, put it up.

Let us say that in Novemeber we honor Modern Soldiers, will it follow the same protocol as "Wannta be on the Cover"? Gosh I hope not. I believe that there are many Soldiers who have this as a hobby. So maybe a thread would be better were everyone could post their picture.

Do it for the month of Veterans Day. Give more modern military time to get a pic in. Give more guys a chance to get a photo taken connecting the Civil War and modern service men.
