I agree with the idea of Veterans day or perhaps even Memorial day. Once a year pick, a month, other wise we would be recieving many pictures every month and getting off the original intention of the cover. It is an awesome picture, one that I am sure is enlarged, framed and hanging above the mantle
Again, let's remember that if we decide to go ahead and put up a modern military cover this next month, I don't think we want to do it again in November. As I said in a previous post, we rarely do these "tribute" covers and while my Father served in the military (and so did my grandfather), this is a Civil War site. As the voting stands right now, we would go ahead and put the Nott image up next month and forego a 2nd modern military cover in November.
Make your vote count. I don't usually publicize my vote in this process, but in this case, I want to say that I think we should give others a fair shot in an open process for the November cover as others have suggested. Nothing against the Notts - it is a great image and very appropriate, but there are many other current military folks out there who I'm sure would like a shot at the cover as well.

I voted for the "next" month allow modern servicemen to submit images...but really I mean for November (the month of Veterans Day).

Let's go for November. Part of the fun of the monthly contest is to see 10 interesting images - even if only one gets to be on the cover in the end. If we simply put the already-submitted image up, we lose getting to see at least 9 other great photos.
I would say that the cover for November should have some correlation of Modern Service Men/Women and CW context...
The Nott image of this would be one example...or even the image Johhny Lloyd had posted back a few months ago...where his image was split between his modern BDUs and a picture of him in his Federal Kit for Outpost...these types are creative methods in which the modern Soldiers, Sailors, Marines and Airmen may be honored along with their CW era counterparts.

I vote November as the choice of modern soldiers photos

A question still remains... it is unclear to me as well, are we soliticing modern pictures of modern veterans in their modern kit- or modern veterans in their CW kit?

We are not suggesting that Modern Day Soldiers submit Modern Day Pictures and have the AC community vote on one for the cover...are we?
Dale, Curt:
Been another busy work day and I didn't clarify earlier. As Paul suggested, the cover would be similar in character to the one submitted by the Notts. I agree with his wording here:
I would say that the cover for November should have some correlation of Modern Service Men/Women and CW context...
The Nott image of this would be one example...or even the image Johhny Lloyd had posted back a few months ago...where his image was split between his modern BDUs and a picture of him in his Federal Kit for Outpost...these types are creative methods in which the modern Soldiers, Sailors, Marines and Airmen may be honored along with their CW era counterparts.
Everyone would have three months to get images ready to be submitted October 20th for the month of November.
I personally would like to see Mr. Nott and his son on this month's cover. I have nothing against allowing others to submit their own modern military photos, ferrotypes, etc. for a designated future month, but with Mr. Nott's submission being the first of its type to be submitted, I would like to see him get the credit for such an outstanding idea.
I voted for next month, but would like to see this in November. It was suggested earlier in the thread perhaps we do this every November. I think "we" can give up 1/12th of the yearly dose of images to honor those among us who have served.
