Re: Vote For the August Cover of the AC

    Doug-

Ironically, the only "Johnny" in the image is wearing blue... :p

I was worn-out after up-and-down the hellish hills at Pickett's. That's genuine sweat, dirt and tiredness there from "Capt. Sorchy's workout..."

BTW: My avatar is a close-up of what I was wearing in this image that day.

It was an awesome event for those that missed it. It was a great chance to see friends and make new ones.

It was very hard between #1 and 3, but my vote went to 3.

I voted #1. Its an amazing and VERY realistic wet plate. It has the feel of an original. I like that. Not to mention Wendell did my wet plate back in 04'. Which I put up in competition for the front cover here a while back.

          Awesome picture!

            My thanks

With all the kind words about my image, I want to publically say "thanks" to those who made it happen. I had the vision in my head of how I wanted my image to look, but if it wasn't for my pards excepting my invitation to be a part of the image, it wouldn't have been possible. And thank you to Wendell Decker for sqeezing us in and making time for this image when he had others waiting for their turn in front of his lense.

Certainly not an easy task...but I voted for number one. So believable it t'ain't funny. I guess that's what we all strive for; believability. Especially the Johnny on the right with the wide-eyed stare. Spot on. :)

The only thing that would improve on this is for Wendell to have moved closer and improved the focus. A difficult art this collodian stuff.

Doug, I think it's just the quality of the scan. I saw the image when I was at Pickett's Mill after it was taken and the focus was great. So I'm betting this is the fault of a modern scanner.

                      All-

When the pic was taken there was a storm brewing and light was getting scarce and patchy at times. But Miss Anna was right- I think it is the quality of the scan as well.

Re: Vote For the August Cover of the AC

Congratulations to Nic Clark for his winning image this month. I will have the new cover posted soon. Thanks to everyone who submitted this month. Remember that for the November cover, we will be looking for images that have modern military and Civil War. We will begin accepting submissions for that on October 20th. In the mean time, we have two covers to submit your best authentic impression.

Thanks to everyone who participated. This poll is officially closed.
