Why do my polls keep closing?!

Hi,

I must be doing something wrong, but I don't know what! In the past 2 days I have had 2 polls (completely different ones) and they keep closing the same day!

What am I doing?

Basically the answer to why your polls keep closing, is that you keep starting polls.

Random polls without a good foundation are generally discouraged because they rarely serve any useful purpose and tend to go on far too long. Questions like "What do you have the most of?" are realy quite pointless and usually best shut down at the beginning instead of after they've had a half dozen relatively useless responses. With so much history, material culture, methods, etc to explore surely we haven't run out of useful things to discuss.

The "hey what do you think about XYZ" questions are fine but they get old darn fast and really don't serve much use beyond creating a list of opinions without any real value.

If you are just looking for a bunch of responses to read, I suggest going back and reading through some of the countless more useful discussions.
