My vote had to go with number two....
Rarely do you see good looking camp shots, although you see originals often.
Number one was my second, but number two stole it away.
      Great image.

Number 3 got my vote. Oh, wait, you must explain why you chose it.

        Because...I...like...it.

it's number 3 for me. That little girl looks like she was snatched out of the history books. Great image!

Re: Vote For the September Cover

Did a Google search a little while ago and came up empty-handed looking for images that might be similar to the ones submitted this month. Might be fun to go out on the net and see if anyone can find an image that matches one of the four. They are all very period-looking poses for sure. Who can be the first to make a match?

Inspiration? Those original images which have a camp site in the background,.

Besides... we don't always have to have an A/C front cover image with a clear distinct personality on display.. do we? ;)
My vote went to #2, with my compliments to the other submissions.

I'm always pleased when reenactors sacrifice the discernibility of their faces and their personal impressions for the sake of a group photo...it seems that most aren't willing, when kicking in towards the fee of having an image done, to relegate themselves to "background artist" status. Yet, how many countless originals turn up that look just like this, in which the photographer is seemingly a thousand miles away? In producing an accurate image of a group, the distance between the lens and the subject is, in itself, accurate -- and it also masks any so-called imperfections in individuals that might otherwise harm the image, were it made from closer up. The photo-geek in me sees images like this, and says "I wish I could see a high-res of this so I could see details!" If a replica image evokes this response, then it's done its purpose. On the other hand, if I can recognize a repro piece of gear in a photo at first glance, or recognize an individual, then it loses a few points of "could be an original" credibility in my unwilling suspension of disbelief mind.

Technically speaking, this particular plate has just the right amount of "raw" going for it to make it one of those sporadic "Collection of the Whozawatsis Historical Society" images that turn up and send us all a'-flutter.

              Well done.

Number 3 melted my heart! The expression on the little girls face and how she is nestled up next to her father is priceless. Family images, especially father/daughter one's, always win for me. Sweet image!

My daughter Elizabeth and I had this tintype taken at Rob Gibson's last month. I normally do military, but I'm expanding into a civilian impression, along with my wife and daughter. She is four years old and is fascinated with "daddy's uniforms", so I asked her if she would want to get a picture taken with me. She was thrilled. This shot is one I'm particularly proud of.

#2 just looks like an original. Thus gets my vote. All the other ones look to clean cut, not a bad thing but #2 just looks like the real thing.

Good month! #3 probably comes closest to an original - being that little cutie's dad may be a challenge in about 12 years!!! I voted for #4 because of the faces and attitudes - I think the AC needs a cover featuring somewhat defiant, slightly weary but patriotic Yankees in good kit. :)

Hard time choices here; they are capitol images one and all. Think I'll vote #1 based on the fact that we don't see enough of those "type" of pics. And reminds me of the famous image of the two, young, drunk soldiers.

                                Hi John,

It is funny you should mention that set of pictures...It was one of the inspirations for #1.

I would love to re create that set at some point. It would be a hoot!
