  • Wanna Be on the December Cover of the AC?

    Greetings Everyone:

Well, it is the 20th of the month. So, the question is, "Do You Wanna Be on the December Cover of the Authentic Campaigner?"

We are looking for images that best-exemplify the look of the authentic living historian. Images taken with period technology only are required (wet plate, pencil drawing, field sketches, etc.) Please refrain from submitting an image that you have submitted within the last year. We are continuously looking for fresh images and have a few days to gather the candidates. Thanks!

    Submission Guidelines:

    1) We will accept the first ten image submissions only. The thread will be closed after the tenth image is submitted, and any images submitted after the tenth will be deleted from the thread.

    2) Once we have ten images, the staff will select the final three. The final three will then be put up for a general vote to the membership of the forum. The winning image will be placed on the front "cover" of the web site for one month.

    3) Make sure and attach the photo to your post. If necessary, we will crop the photo for the best fit.

    4) The Moderators/Administrators reserve the right to remove any submittals that they feel don't meet the standards of the Authentic Campaigner.

Now, let's see your best images!

Re: Wanna Be on the December Cover of the AC?

This image is of Ken Coanshock. Submitted with his permission. Half Plate taken by Bob Szabo in his old Fredericksburg Studio. March 2005.

I am very appreciative of this image for a number of reasons. First off it reminds me of a number of studio images seen were soldiers opted to pose in heavy marching order. Secondly I appreciate Ken's attention to detail not only in his gear selection but also in his gaze and rather uneasy posture, almost to the point of leaning forward. Furthermore every plate and buckle is clean in the spirit of how I believe a solider would choice to look in an studio image, I also appreciate the Federal Issue Shirt. Finally Bob's attention to detail are equally nice, a clear beautiful plate.

        Thanks for your consideration.
I believe Ken will be around shortly to provide further notes.

            All:

I had this photo done last weekend at Gibson's Studio in Gettysburg. It was my first tin type experience, and what an amazing experience it was. I studied photographs and tried my hardest to get "the look," as was discussed on this board a few months ago.

I was impressed with the result and I hope you are too.

            Regards,

This image was taken by Robert Szabo at Bristoe Station October 2008. It is the field hospital of the 27th North Carolina Infantry the morning after the Battle of Bristoe Station, October 15, 1863.

It was alot of fun creating the hospital and great to have a working Ambulance Corps to remove wounded from the field and wounded to fill the hospital at this first person event. Thanks to everyone who made this possible!

For your consideration. Here is a pictures of my two friends (Travis and Kyle) of the Tater Mess. The picture was taken at Stand of Colors this May. They were portraying Price's 1864 Missouri Raid.

Wow, that was fast. Must be pent-up demand since we did the Veteran's Day cover last month, I guess. We have our ten. As always, thanks to everyone who submitted. We will have the finalists up in about four days.
