Dear Sir, Madam,
My name is Vera Rademaker and I am a graduate student of American Studies at Utrecht University in the Netherlands. I am writing to you to humbly ask for your cooperation in my research for my Masters thesis.
During my study of the United States I have become particularly interested in the South, and I have therefore chosen to write my graduate thesis on a Southern subject. My topic is Civil War reenactment by Southerners. Because there has been so little research on this specific topic, I cannot rely solely on secondary literature I feel I need to supplement my research with primary sources. That is where you come in. If you are a Civil War reenactor living in the South (defined for the purpose of my research as the states and border states of the former Confederacy, Kentucky and Missouri), I would greatly appreciate you filling out this questionnaire about your reenactment experiences. This will help me to gain a more comprehensive understanding of Southern reenactment. I am particularly interested in finding out what reenacting means to you and what part - if any - it plays in your sense of self.
The questionnaire consists of 36 main questions and a flexible number of sub-questions that is related to your answers to the main questions. It should take approximately 20 minutes to fill out. The following link will take you to the questionnaire: http://uurespondents.netq.nl/nq.cfm?...3-b3467745a1f7.
I would greatly appreciate it if you could point other Southern reenactors you may know towards this questionnaire. I would like to hear from both military and civilian living historians.
I would be incredibly grateful for your assistance. After all, because I do not live in the United States, the best way for me to connect with Civil War reenactors is online. If you wish to read the results of my research I will of course be happy to send you a copy of my thesis when it is finished.
Many thanks in advance for your help!
Kind regards,
Vera Rademaker
